Assistant shopkeepers Hannah and Isabeau have set up the shipping department on the kitchen table… The girls are very organized, they have boxes, packing materials, and a cart –  all ready to load with parcels for a trip to the post office.

Josephine has been spending her time composing advertisements for the shoppe. “Mistress Walton begs leave to inform her Friends and the Public in general that she intends opening a Pop-Up Shoppe on Tuesday, the 13th inst. with a new and elegant assortment of paper cuttings, stitchery, and love tokens… Mistress Walton takes this opportunity of returning thanks for the great patronage she has already received from her numerous friends… ” Josephine is a devoted reader and she found great inspiration in Advertisements for January, Ackerman’s Repository, Vol. XI, 1814

 

It has been a cold, snowy, ice covered week here in our sleepy little Connecticut home. Even a commute that is measured in yards, rather than miles, has been treacherous. So rather than working in either of my studios, the dolls and I have been sitting in front of the fire cutting silhouettes. ❤

Last evening we finally finished hand graining all the frames, mounting the silhouettes and framing them. Now that they are completed we are all ready to open our Valentine Pop-Up Shoppe ❤

MISTRESS WALTON’S VALENTINE POP-UP SHOPPE

Most of our various offerings are one of a kind. You’ll notice that several of them are similar, but have different details, varying frames, etc… Each item offered for sale has an item number and price. Free priority mail shipping is included to all U.S. addresses. Exact postage – no handling fees – are charged to foreign addresses. Connecticut residents will be charged 6.35 % sales tax. Payment may be made via Paypal, personal check or lay-away. All items sold on a first come basis. You may email me at paula@asweetremembrance.com with questions or to claim an item. If more than one person wishes to buy a particular item, I will go by the time stamp when your email is received to determine the 1st request.

A note about the photos, because of the glass there are some reflections in the photos. I also had a problem with static electricity and dust. I dusted, and dusted and dusted some more, but every time I looked again there were little dust particles on the outside of the glass… Needless to say, all of the silhouettes look so  much nicer in person :).

Two variations of baby hands with hearts. I drew this little hand a couple of years ago when my granddaughter was a baby ❤ This is a very tiny paper cutting, the mounted silhouette is slightly less than 2 inches square. Framed to hang on the wall. $29.00 each.

Accented with a heart and accompanied by a separate heart pincushion. Both hearts are hand sewn from hand dyed, felted wool, with hand pinked edges.

Two Weeks Worth of Flea Market Loot!

Were you wondering what I bought at the Elephant’s Trunk last Sunday?  (As requested) Here are some of the things that I brought home from my last two trips to the flea market  ❤

When I saw this chair it was love at first site! I adore the shape of the arms and the center back spindle. I am also quite smitten with the colonial revival era painting that was added to this early 19th century chair.

Two more of my finds from 8/30. An amazing early transferware bowl, which just happens to match one of my dinner plates, and a small mid-19th century wool embroidered sampler.

This tiny sampler is later than most of the samplers in my collection AND it needs to be reframed, but it is stitched with some of my favorite colors and it was only $15 !!!

One of this Sunday’s chairs. This one is a reproduction Windsor chair from Martin’s Chairs in PA. I already owned one of his comb back Windsors, so this is a nice companion piece and a good sturdy chair for visitors who get nervous about sitting in my tiny antique chairs 🙂

These count as the afore mentioned “tiny antique chairs” . This pair was another of my Sunday finds.

The kittens are captivated by all of my black chairs. Jack couldn’t wait to try one out.

Late 19th century folk art scenery panel. Another love at first sight item ❤  There is just something about the shape, the colors (a great early green and lots of lavender sky)  and the soft mural like quality that I could not pass by.

At the moment the panel is hanging above the mantle in our bedroom, where it is a perfect fit.

Antique clothing! These are the pieces that are in very good condition and can be used as is.

Two weeks worth of imperfect petticoats hang in my studio waiting to be scaled down into doll size undergarments.

Antique stockings are something I am always searching for. A tiny Izannah Walker doll that I am restoring is shown in the background.

These stockings are old unused store stock.

This pair came with a story…

This dapper fellow in the spiffy black suit came home from the Elephant’s Trunk earlier this summer. He assured me that he really needed to have his photo included in this post!

Vintage Valentines

About thirty years ago my mother gave me several vintage Valentines and managed to pass on her fondness for emphera to me.  Unfortunately, according to my husband, she also passed on her love of dolls, dishes, granite ware, antique and vintage cooking implements, quilts, baby shoes, antique furniture, etc., etc., etc…  🙂

Now whenever I see vintage Valentines I think of my mom.  For me the memories and feelings that my collections invoke are one of the most precious things about collecting.   I don’t really consider myself a Valentine collector, I just happen to be a person who owns several dozen vintage Valentines.  I’m not really sure what the magic number is that you have to pass, to turn the things you own into a collection, but I don’t think I’ve gotten there quite yet.

In addition to my vintage Valentines, I also save Valentines from my husband, children and friends.  I have one friend who often hand makes all of the Valentines that she sends out.  I tell  myself that I need to do the same, but I have to admit that I rarely manage to fit in time to make my own.  If you are better at time management than I am and would like to try your hand at making Valentine Puzzle Purses, you can find the directions here.
